Step Forwards

My Plans for 2021

After 2020 I was a little hesitant about making any plans at all for 2021. I was concerned that it would be a waste of time or that I would ultimately fall into despondency every time I had to cancel something or change my plans.

It took me a while to come up with an idea that I felt best suited the current circumstances, which was to write plans, both personal and business related, to include things that I could do regardless of whether I was locked down at home or not.

Below are some of the things that I want to achieve in 2021 and want to share with you.

This is by no means an exhaustive list. I have ambitions and goals, some of which are not fitness related, and some of which are dependant in a change in the current global circumstances.

The things I have highlighted below are things I intend to achieve, regardless of what happens around me. They are a mixture of personal challenges, and things I hope to achieve with my Zumba community. A lot of them are going to make up the stories I tell through this blog this coming year.

Walking

A few years ago I joined a Facebook Group called Walk 1000. Its members challenge themselves to walk 1000 miles in the year. Although being a member for a few years I have never challenged myself to actually complete this, and since at the moment walking is one of the few things we can do, I thought this would be the year to do it.  I completed 11.9 miles in the first 7 days of the year so I will have to pick up the pace if I want to complete this challenge, but I have started.

Toning Challenge

I have been challenged to include squats, abdominal and upper body exercises into my daily routine, to improve my physique and also to assist in my archery progression.  I have been a bit slow on the uptake on this one – but I started my squats today and will be creating a routine so that these become habitual.

Training

As so much fitness training has gone online I am confident that I am still going to be able to carry on learning new things through the year. I am attending my first Zumba choreography training this weekend and have something exciting, interesting and very different lined up for February. Watch this space – details to follow.

Charity

As I mentioned I my review of 2020 I had ambitious plans last year to raise money for Cancer Research through a series of fundraising events. Sadly, once we got locked down, I made the decision to not pursue this in any way, and I feel sad that I did this. I would love to be holding big fundraising events this year, but the reality is, any fundraising is likely to be done in small, individual events, or online. Regardless of this, I am planning to fundraise this year. In these times where Covid dominates the news, it is important to remember that there are families being torn apart by cancer and they should not be forgotten.

My Business Plan for 2021 is built on very uncertain foundations. I may not be able to achieve everything I would like. But by challenging myself in ways that I can achieve wherever I am, and by making myself accountable for those things through this blog, I can make sure 2021 is a success.
